Do you Hulu?

It seems that Hulu is taking over as the newest internet brain child. Following behind the many new entertainment websites. Each of the new sites brings something new to the internet such as Youtube letting everyone share viral videos with the whole world. Hulu, however is the first to step into the realm of TV. I have been using hulu for a very long time now and it is a wonderful thing. The most significant thing it offers me is it frees up my schedule instead of planning time to watch a tv show the first time it airs. If you have yet to experience the joy that the website offers, Hulu is a site that streams full episodes from many different channels of your favorite shows. Not only that they have a database of older shows, to catch up on the ones you might have missed, or the classic show that you want to watch again. The streams also only have three 30 second commercials per episode, for all those who hate to watch commercials. Now though Hulu has gone onto TV itself, with commercials with Alec Baldwin and the newest one includes Eliza Dushku.
"Because we're aliens, its kinda our thing."
Hulu's adds are just playing on the "theory" that when someone watches tv their brain turns to much. Their commercials are very effient in this sense and its their technology of putting all of the shows on to the internet that intices users. From the commercials not many people know what the website is and from the oddity of it they would look at the website and see what it is all about. In the end the website is a savior of time, no more saying no to plans becuase you have to stay home and watch a show. They even have HD shows and movies that you can watch, and most likely as a college student your tv is much worse than your computer.

Black Berry Bama

Blackberrys are the new fashion trend of cell phones for the serious minded. No motion sensitive app playing, key less device that is the iPhone. Barack Obama is a serious president for the new way the United States is running technology is everywhere in our society except it seems for the president. He does have all the technologies keeping him safe, but lacks the personal technologies we all have. The technologies of the blackberry suit Obama very well. Like those of business man they are used for work email and calls, but also for email and calls to family members and close friends. Obama wants to be outside the white house bubble, wants to get ideas from other places than just those IV league graduates who sit in the seats of politics.

It is the ideas of many that Obama wants to hear and then consider all of the different possibilities for action. Just like when college students find plans for the upcoming week or the weekend that is coming up. We talk to everyone we know to find what we want to do if we are not with the people we are planning to spend most our time with. Also there are calls to and from home with our parents to get a more sound advice on life and what is going on with the more serious side. Most of the students don't have email on their phones but every student knows how and where they can find a computer the fastest to check. I do not expect Obama to be texting under the Oval Office desk while in a meeting. The president will have down time to and like college students he might take advantage of that time to catch up with close friends like he did during the political campaign where he was seen never without his cell phone.

Common place, a wealth of knowledge that eats at the topics on every college students brain. I want to eat at the part of the brain where the president, politics and the new changing technologies and life are heading. We are heading to a time where almost everyone has a cell phone and more and more people are getting the all capable phones such as a Blackberry. It is the difference that college students want the iPhone while Obama is getting his blackberry. The difference is just their life style but both are being used for the same reason. Its the downtime to catch up with close friends, and why shouldn't a president be given that capability. We all want to hear about other people's lives and hear what they are doing; along with hearing what they have to say about situations in our own lives. Why shouldn't the president be offered the same opportunity that all of us who he is leading have?

P.S. As a side note, wouldn't it be weird if Obama was fighting to keep an iPhone???

Barack's Emotional Elevation

Who knew there was science behind speaking. As well was who knew that Oprah could make women lactate, this second thought is much more disturbing than the first. Barack Obama used the science of speaking with out knowledge that it existed. His mannerisms and the words he chose, were studied by Dacher Keltner. The research combined the chemical reactions from Obama supporters whilst they watched and listened to his speeches. In the article by Emily Yoffe, she didn't use science to get her point across but rather she used rhetoric.

The words, stimulate and elevation were the main research objectives. These words also are through out the article to describe the effect of President Obama's speeches on his supporters. Rhetoric is used by the author to explain the science behind the words that Obama says, it is his rhetoric that influences his supporters and is also a way that he manages what to say. As in when the election was coming sooner he started to focus more on what he would say and not just repeat similar speeches from before, because the rhetoric would be increasingly too much for his listeners.

A difference between two sides can be distinguished through 2 very different ideas. The ideas of elevation and disgust, between the McCain and Obama supporters. It is also the huge separation between the two sides in politics, science and rhetoric. The McCain supporters get almost no sense of elevation when he speaks, on the other hand they can be almost disgusted by it. Haidt says the the emotion disgust is a trivial primeval emotion of natural occurrence. Things like this and the rhetoric of English have always been around but not disgust or researched in any much detail. It is the disgust of spoiled food that seems to be an anomaly within the article. The emotion of disgust could have been talked about through more a mundane way than spoiled food. However, the author wanted to choose the disgusting thought of the spoiled food, to evoke the same emotion within his readers. The use of rhetoric works to pull at the strings of our emotions like those of Obamas who pulls the strings of his supporters.

The Wonderful Edible Food

I already finished the Smore Pop Tarts while just thinking about what i should write about, so this isn't an accurate depiction of my shelf. The different kind of food and drink that everyone has will always be changing. Except however, for those staple comfort foods that everyone has to cheer them up. Items that change are influenced by new experiences, trying new things, and possibly the store being out of what you want but your still hungry.
My food at school is mostly of the comfort food type. Its the Boss sauce, that I have had on my pizza, and many other such items since the beginning of school. Identifying with this sauce, that's generically called country sweet sauce, reminds me of home and what I am used too. Along with the cream soda from Wegmans, a local huge grocery chain. Its these kinda condiments and drinks that I enjoy so much they show my values that people might miss. They are the items that I always had around friends, boss sauce was always around when there was pizza and always the Wegmans soda. It never occurred to me that most my food was from home, until writing this. It represents how my memories can be attached to home, this however doesn't make me homesick or want to go visit all my friends though. On the other hand it just reminds me of all the good times, and all the good times I will have with these coming years at THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY.
Condiments make the food here delicious. Along with the Boss sauce what you don't see is my refrigerator with three different kinds of hot sauces. One is Franks, a delicious hot sauce, and the other is from one of those specialty stores and is very spicy. Hot sauce will go on almost any food it can that I get. There is nothing that explains my taste for hot foods, I grew up with no influences of spicy and hot foods. Its the experiences in life that change many tings around you. Although trying hot sauce might be considered low on life experiences, I still take the risks and the adventures that lead to even grander and exciting experiences. Next to all the hot sauces is a traditional treat that my mother was never to fond of buying, and that is chocolate snack packs. Ever since watching Billy Madison I have had a guilty pleasure for the delicious chocolaty pudding, and what do you know Fresh Express never runs out. Influences are all around us, and can be related to the food we eat and how are values are shaped throughout life.

A new exciting endeavor into the world of blogging

Steven Colbert is THE man. His rant on the oil companies was something I have though about myself before. The ironies of all the strange things oil companies do. LIke hire random scientists so they look better because their research is for the enviornment. Their research is funded by all of us paying a ridiculous amount of oil, hence their profits go up with the price of gas. Just ridiculous.
