Who knew there was science behind speaking. As well was who knew that Oprah could make women lactate, this second thought is much more disturbing than the first. Barack Obama used the science of speaking with out knowledge that it existed. His mannerisms and the words he chose, were studied by Dacher Keltner. The research combined the chemical reactions from Obama supporters whilst they watched and listened to his speeches. In the article by Emily Yoffe, she didn't use science to get her point across but rather she used rhetoric.
The words, stimulate and elevation were the main research objectives. These words also are through out the article to describe the effect of President Obama's speeches on his supporters. Rhetoric is used by the author to explain the science behind the words that Obama says, it is his rhetoric that influences his supporters and is also a way that he manages what to say. As in when the election was coming sooner he started to focus more on what he would say and not just repeat similar speeches from before, because the rhetoric would be increasingly too much for his listeners.
A difference between two sides can be distinguished through 2 very different ideas. The ideas of elevation and disgust, between the McCain and Obama supporters. It is also the huge separation between the two sides in politics, science and rhetoric. The McCain supporters get almost no sense of elevation when he speaks, on the other hand they can be almost disgusted by it. Haidt says the the emotion disgust is a trivial primeval emotion of natural occurrence. Things like this and the rhetoric of English have always been around but not disgust or researched in any much detail. It is the disgust of spoiled food that seems to be an anomaly within the article. The emotion of disgust could have been talked about through more a mundane way than spoiled food. However, the author wanted to choose the disgusting thought of the spoiled food, to evoke the same emotion within his readers. The use of rhetoric works to pull at the strings of our emotions like those of Obamas who pulls the strings of his supporters.

The Wonderful Edible Food
My food at school is mostly of the comfort food type. Its the Boss sauce, that I have had on my pizza, and many other such items since the beginning of school. Identifying with this sauce, that's generically called country sweet sauce, reminds me of home and what I am used too. Along with the cream soda from Wegmans, a local huge grocery chain. Its these kinda condiments and drinks that I enjoy so much they show my values that people might miss. They are the items that I always had around friends, boss sauce was always around when there was pizza and always the Wegmans soda. It never occurred to me that most my food was from home, until writing this. It represents how my memories can be attached to home, this however doesn't make me homesick or want to go visit all my friends though. On the other hand it just reminds me of all the good times, and all the good times I will have with these coming years at THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY.
Condiments make the food here delicious. Along with the Boss sauce what you don't see is my refrigerator with three different kinds of hot sauces. One is Franks, a delicious hot sauce, and the other is from one of those specialty stores and is very spicy. Hot sauce will go on almost any food it can that I get. There is nothing that explains my taste for hot foods, I grew up with no influences of spicy and hot foods. Its the experiences in life that change many tings around you. Although trying hot sauce might be considered low on life experiences, I still take the risks and the adventures that lead to even grander and exciting experiences. Next to all the hot sauces is a traditional treat that my mother was never to fond of buying, and that is chocolate snack packs. Ever since watching Billy Madison I have had a guilty pleasure for the delicious chocolaty pudding, and what do you know Fresh Express never runs out. Influences are all around us, and can be related to the food we eat and how are values are shaped throughout life.

A new exciting endeavor into the world of blogging
Steven Colbert is THE man. His rant on the oil companies was something I have though about myself before. The ironies of all the strange things oil companies do. LIke hire random scientists so they look better because their research is for the enviornment. Their research is funded by all of us paying a ridiculous amount of oil, hence their profits go up with the price of gas. Just ridiculous.
